MPs Visit the Kholongo Multi-purpose dam construction site

On 11th April, 2026, the Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources, Energy and Climate Change, visited the Kholongo Multi-Purpose Dam under construction in order to appreciate the progress so far made and the associated bottlenecks. The Committee observed that currently, works have come to a halt and they sought an explanation from the Board’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Eng. Booker Waya.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer told the committee that the works were currently halted because of funding. He expressed hope that with the allocation of MK18 billion in the recently passed budget, there will be some movement on the works. He however, mentioned that with this allocation, the project will not be completed because there is still a need for an additional MK85 billion to complete all works under the project.

In her response, the Committee Chair Hon Tiaone Hendry said as a committee, they will lobby with the Minister of Finance during mid-year budget review to allocate funds that will enable the completion of the project. She indicated that further delays will result in increased costs of the project and that this will be burden to the government.

The Committee assured CRWB that it will come to visit the site again once it succeeds in lobbying for funding.
